“Did I take my pill or not?” is a very common self-doubt across all age groups. Due to evolutionary reasons, humans do not remember things, which they are habitual to do every day. Non-adherence to the said dose of medication is an out-of-control epidemic that affects people more than any other disease. A similar incident where a friend perpetually forgot whether or not he has taken his medication, set Bhavik Vyas, President and CEO of ElysIoT, thinking about the gravity of harm that can be caused with the non-adherence of medicines. ElysIoT, an IoT and AI-based startup, was founded to address the unmet needs of human forgetfulness.

With a highly defined practical experience of working on USBs, chips, networking switches, and Snapdragon processors; Vyas set the ball rolling with an innovative hardware and software platform aimed at mitigating the challenge of non-adherence and incorrect dosage of medication among patients. “The future of medication management entails IoT-enabled smart packaging and AI-powered adherence interventions,” says Vyas.

To be introduced in the market shortly, the eponymous ElysIoT platform leverages IoT connectivity and personalized AI to offer three interconnected products—MagiCap, MagicHub, and ElyCare to create a closed-loop compliance ecosystem bringing the doctor, pharmacist, and the caregiver together. MagiCap is a ubiquitous solution that can go on top of prescribed medicine bottles of any size to remind patients about scheduled dosages of their regular medicines. Once the MagiCap is fitted on the bottle top, every intake of the pill is recorded in the ElysIoT app. MagiCap uses Bluetooth Low Energy communication to detect the opening and closing motion of the bottle. MagiCap is linked with the ElysIoT app to help the patients and caregivers with where the pill bottle is, or how many pills are left, indicating whether a refill is required. The ElysIoT app also analyzes the pill-taking habits of the user, sends them intelligent reminders for taking the medication at the scheduled timings. For big hospitals, home care centers, assisted living facilities, and adult family homes, where a cellphone gateway is not suitable, MagicHub comes into the picture as a linking hub for multiple MagiCaps. “The final product, ElyCare, is a wrap-around AI-enabled platform that tracks and monitors activities of patients and offers them the needed advice,” explains Vyas.

Acting as an advisor of the AI-informative ElyCare platform is ElyBot that provides the users with advices and different instances of people who got better with proper medicinal dosage. ElyBot figures out the exact reason behind patients not refilling their medicine. In case of the high rates of medicine being the reason, ElyBot suggests lower-priced drugs in the same neighborhood. When the non-adherence stems from anxiety due to side effects, Elybot recommends a different pill with the same therapeutic effect on the user. ElyBot integrates with Google, Alexa, and Apple Health for day-to-day communication. Furthermore, the integration with electronic health records helps the caregivers track the patient’s pill intake, ensuring that they are taking the medicines in the proper dosage and manner.

Adding to the vast provision of services, ElysIoT has the vending machine model implementation as one of its future plans. This model will take care of all the norms to facilitate a refill in any place of the world, including communication with the pharmacist, ensuring that people do not forget their pills even while on vacation. The company has the plan to offer telemedicine for the caregivers to track the patients’ medication online, cutting down the need for their in-person interaction. ElysIoT will also leverage pharmacogenomics to bring in personalized medicine facilities.
